How Can I Help? The Qld Government’s Strategic cropping land - Policy and Planning Framework Discussion Paper is a positive step forward for agriculture and the first time anywhere in Australia that a government has taken the mature and responsible view that our strategic food production assets should be protected from unnecessary mining. A submission process was opened for the community to have their say on the proposed new “Strategic Cropping Land” policy. The closing date for submissions was the 12th of March, 2010. There is now a working group made up of mining, agricultural and environmental stakeholders as well as DEEDI and DERM staff from the Qld Government that have had several meetings to work through this new policy. It is anticipated that the state government will release a draft of the proposed legislation for community comment in the near future. Until the proposed legislation is released, there is not a lot that the general public can do to help. Please support us in the mean time by becoming a member on our Membership page.
